Kurt Vonnegut gave a hilarious talk about the “shape” stories take in which he diagrammed and charted out the arc of several popular stories. In the end though, Kurt realized that human beings know too little about the forces at work in the world, to truly understand what is the good and what is the bad that happens to us. What is the right outcome and what is the wrong. It is liberating to not always be desperately trying to control the arc of our lives to veer only toward the things that seem good and happy, and rather let things unfold, slowly, and wonderfully in their own sweet time….
